Artist Biography

This electronica project was founded in 2005 by Phil Hartnoll (b. Phillip Hartnoll, 9 January 1964, Dartford, Kent, England), one half of the recently defunct UK techno band Orbital, and fellow producer Nick Smith. The duo made their debut later that year with the Ed209 collaboration, 'Dr. Hoover'. The album Madness And Me, released in 2007, encompassed a wide range of styles, from techno through ambient to indie rock. Hartnoll in particular, now free from the restraints of working with one of the biggest names of the UK dance scene of the last two decades, reveled in his new-found creative freedom. Hartnoll and Smith were joined on subsequent live dates by vocalists Kelly Malone and Mick Mula, keyboard player Jimi Mula, violinist Sarah Tunnel, and drummer Will White. The duo has also notably remixed tracks by Clearlake and Pilch.
