Originally starting out in 1997 as a one-man bedroom side project for guitarist and vocalist Ben Pringle, Kerosene Hero was a break from his full-time band of Nubby's Garden. Eventually, after the breakup of his aforementioned gig that he split his time with, Pringle recruited Matthew Talmage (drums/vocals), Chris Rodriguez (bass), and Chuck Vaughan (guitar/keyboards) to complete the lineup two years later. After their first live show in 1999, Kerosene Hero packaged their power pop inspirations of R.E.M. and Matthew Sweet on their self-released debut EP Strike Anywhere in 2000.
