Jorge Luis Borrego was born in Cuba and wrote his first song at age 13. Although he graduated from the University of Havana in 1982 with a degree in physical education, he continued writing songs and performing, winning some minor awards in Cuba. After moving to the U.S. in 1989, Borrego had one of his songs recorded by Marisela, which led to his songs being recorded by Selena, Ednita Nazario, The Barrio Boyzz, Jimmy González & Grupo Mazz, La Tropa F, Gary Hobbs, Pete Astudillo, Willie González and many others. Albums containing his songs have received Grammy Awards, Billboard Awards, Premios Lo Nuestro, and Tejano Music Awards in addtion to appearing on the Billboard charts. Although he is no longer active as a performer, Borrego continues to write songs, and owns 2 publishing companies, Artecuba & Jolubor Music.
