A teenage fascination for calypso and flamenco music was turned into a successful career as a producer and critic of world music by John Storm Roberts. A graduate of Oxford University, where he earned a degree in world languages, Roberts began his career by reviewing albums for a newspaper in Nairobi. Returning to England, he secured a position as a producer of African music programs for the BBC. Emigrating to the United States in 1970, he found a job as a writer for an African newspaper. This evolved into the formation of a musical import company, Authentic, which later became Original Music.
