b. c. 1900, USA, d. USA. A country fiddle player, in 1924 he teamed up with singer Henry Whitter, who also played guitar and harmonica, and banjo player John Rector. They called themselves the Virginia Breakdowners and went to New York City where they recorded for OKeh Records. Little was heard of Sutphin after this date.
