Plowing a similar furrow to the early Misfits, albeit at a time when the American band remained unknown in the U.K., Roger Rep (vocals), ex-Sweet guitarist Frank Torpey (aka Frankie Dean), Ray Boghart (bass), and Wally Bantam (drums) formed Horrorcomic in early 1977. Part novelty act, part solid fun, Horrorcomic signed with the Lightning label and debuted with the pun-heavy "All Hung Up on Pierrpoint" single -- misspelling notwithstanding, the titular Pierrepoint was England's last public hangman. Two further 45s -- "I Don't Mind" and "Jesus Christ" -- followed over the next two years, both cut in a similar vein and equally enjoyable, before Horrorcomic vanished from view.
