Paul Jones and DJ Harris had been making music separately for years with no knowledge of the other when they met in Columbus in the late '90s and formed Green Sky Grey. Originally from Cleveland, OH, saxophonist/vocalist Paul Jones was seeking a band to join. DJ Harris, having recently left the band, Innuendo, was likewise searching for new opportunities. Originally named FIVE EYED SPY, until they discovered the name was taken, Green Sky Grey includes drummer Rick Ritzler and former Under the Gun guitarist Mike Hartless on bass. They released a self-titled, independently produced debut in February 1999, on their own Poor Boy Records label. Green Sky Grey gigged heavily throughout Ohio and neighboring states, performing in benefit of Vietnam Veterans and the local Columbus AIDSWalk 2000 charity. A show at Columbus' venerable Newport Music Hall (co-billed with King's X), along with considerable airplay on local commercial and college radio proved the band had made a definite mark. In early 2001, fueled by a conviction to produce solid music centered on powerful guitar grooves and evocative songmanship, Green Sky Grey released their sophomore disc, Walking Blind.
