Artist Biography

This Australian all-female rock band was formed in Melbourne in 1988. The original line-up featured Anne McCue (b. Campbelltown, Sydney, Australia; guitar/vocals), Sherry Valier (b. Bribie Island, Queensland, Australia; vocals/guitar), Damian Child (bass, ex-Feline Touch), and Sue World (drums, ex-Wet Ones). The quartet’s love of hard rock was indulged in a stage act that quickly gained them a cult following on the local rock circuit. The singles, ‘Surfing On A Wave Of Love’/‘He’s Hell’ (1989) and ‘Joe Cool’ (1990) were independent chart-toppers in the band’s native Australia, and were followed by the enjoyable Monstereo Delicio in 1992. By the release of the album, Janene Abbott (b. Hamilton, New Zealand) had replaced Child as the band’s bass player. After Girl Monstar disbanded in 1993, McCue and Valier launched solo careers in the roots rock genre, with the latter recording under the Sherry Rich moniker.
