Violinist Gilbert White has performed and recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra since the '90s, appearing on a series of soundtrack and classical pop releases with which the mighty symphony has expanded its core audience. At least that's the idea with sides such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra's Plays the Music of Pink Floyd. To some listeners, following the latter up with an evening of James Bond Themes is worthy of a personal license to kill. In fairness to White, it should be acknowledged that his audience is indeed much larger than '60s burnouts and fans of spy movies. The violinist's work under the baton of conductor Luis Cobos includes Viva Mexico from 2000, a classical interpretation of various genres from south of the border.
