One of the least appetising and gifted of the new breed of west coast rap collectives, Ganxsta Rid and his backing group, the Otha Side, made their debut in 1996 with Occupation Hazardous. The album was released in the UK on the predominantly hard rock-based Music For Nations label. The only other rap group to have made much of an impression on that label were fellow Los Angeles group Boo-Yaa Tribe, leading many critics to suspect that the groups were one and the same. It was later confirmed that Ganxsta Rid And The Otha Side were indeed an attempt by the Tribe to adopt a new persona and pick up on some of the commercial possibilities granted by the breakthrough of Dr. Dre's G-Funk style. It was an attempt that failed miserably.
