More or less formed after Dadamah wrapped up and named after a lyric from one of the earlier group's songs, New Zealand's Flies Inside the Sun continues the shadowy, mysterious experimentalism of that fine band. Kim Pieters leads the group on vocals and bass, with Peter Stapleton providing drumming and at many points lyrics. Guitarists/synth players Danny Butt and Brian Crook fill out the quartet, which has been recording intermittently since the early to mid-'90s. Its earliest release, …An Audience of Others (Including Herself), appeared on the highly regarded American label Kranky, but further releases have since come out on Metronymic.
