Elisa Chan was one of Hong Kong's biggest stars during the 1980s and is perhaps best known for her duets with Leslie Cheung. Though she is primarily a Cantonese singer, she also sings in other languages including Mandarin, Japanese, English, and Tagalog. Born in Hong Kong, she began her singing career at a young age in the 1970s, quitting school at age 16 and joining the New Topnotes, a Cantonese-language band. In the 1980s Chan emerged as a solo star, although her duets with Leslie Cheung proved most popular. Despite the waning of her success over time, she remained active in later years, particularly as a live performer.
