Einstein, a German hard rock band formed in the late 70s, comprised Richard Schoenherz (vocals, keyboards), Christian Kolonovits (vocals, keyboards), Johan Daansen (bass, vocals) and Harmut Pfannmueller (drums). Their music was pitched somewhere between the progressive rock of Emerson, Lake And Palmer and the pomp AOR of Kansas or Journey, but on the evidence of their sole album, First Principles, released on a major label in 1979, they were less intuitive songwriters and performers than any of those acts. Greeted with disdain bordering on antipathy by reviewers, the band continued for only a few months after its release. A second release including the assistance of David Thomas (vocals), Reinhard Besser (guitar, keyboards, vocals), and Christian Felke (saxophone) was issued later.
