b. 31 October 1948, England. This singer, guitarist and songwriter specialized in ragtime and country blues. His work encompasses the styles of artists such as ‘Big’ Bill Broonzy, Mississippi John Hurt and Rev. Gary Davis. Between 1977 and 1982 Walker released four albums, the second of which was a compilation of residency appearances at the Cutty Wren Folk Club in Redcar, Cleveland. This included Walker’s song ‘Candy’. Another Walker original, ‘Stolen My Heart Away’, was joint winner of the Tyne Tees television programme Songwriter in 1982. Walker has now teamed up with the highly respected guitarist John James in the duo Carolina Shout. James was earlier featured playing guitar on Walker’s 1985 releasePicking My Way.
