DJ/producer David Hollands' track selection is often compared to the minimal and straightforward techno style of Richie Hawtin and Laurent Garnier. Originally from Indiana and later relocating to New York City, Hollands built a strong fan base out of international DJ headlining spots. Hollands started DJing in the '80s, in high school, which has influenced his sets to include a wide range and time span of music from '40s big band and hip-hop to techno and classic funk. In his base of N.Y.C., he has spun at popular night spots like Twilo and the CBGB gallery. Though Hollands has traveled the world, he sites Detroit as having a strong impact on his music, and musicians such as Jeff Mills, Claude Young, and Chicago's Traxx as influences. He started in his own record label, Minimal Wage, the first release being a joint effort between Hollands and Linus.
