A founding member of modern steel drum ensemble Charlie's Roots, Chris "Tambu" Herbert played a vital role in the evolution of Trinidad's popular music. Launching his solo career in 1986, Herbert placed first in the Road March competition for three straight years between 1988 and 1991. The following year, he relocated temporarily to Boston to attend the Berklee College of Music. Although he returned to Trinidad in 1994, he never recaptured his previous glory.
