From the Bronx, New York, USA, and one of the earliest ‘reality’ rappers, Brother D. (b. Daryl Aamaa Nubyahn) was a maths teacher, and recorded the mighty ‘How We Gonna Make The Black Nation Rise’, on Clappers (a label set up by expatriate Jamaican Lister Hewan Lowe). Based on the popular Cheryl Lynn ‘Got To Be Real’ break, it acted as a soundtrack to the political organization National Black Science.
