Deriving their compositions from vigorous emo-rock inspirations and constant references to a masterminding line of pop/rock, Boylion creates a unique setting for their compositions. Formed in the summer of 2000, in Elmhurst, IL, with a five-piece lineup comprising Travis Murphy (vocals, guitar), Matt Roan (guitar), Jessica Schreiber (keyboards), Nick Rymut (drums), and Marcin Andruskiewicz (bass), Boylion swiftly created a loyal following within the local music scene. During the months following its formation, the band made its first live performances, immediately gaining the attention of the Chicago club scene. It was by that time that the Moc Records label decided to sign a deal with the crew, and within short notice Boylion entered the studio to record its first full-length disc. Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Select Start, the group's debut album, hit the record stores in 2001, with production and mastering credits attributed to the crew itself and to Mike Haggler. At the same point, Boylion continued to regularly perform beyond their local state area, securing even greater recognition from the media and the public.
