One of the more arresting Dutch traditional metal outfits of the 80s, Bodine released two independent albums in the early 80s before a brief foray with a major label for 1984’s Three Times Running. Comprising Jay Van Feggelen (vocals), Rheno Xeros (guitar), Armand Hoff (bass) and Gerrad Hatsma (drums), the group’s tightly condensed rock sound was ostensibly derivative of groups such as Gillan and Whitesnake, but their better work was imbued with some excellent guitar playing from Xeros, who, as time passed, seemed to be leading the group in a quasi-blues rock direction. Although some fans were concerned about this transition, it proved a shrewd move, judging by the critical reaction afforded their sole major label album for WEA Records in 1984. However, the group were never able to convert press acclaim into sales and by the mid-80s Bodine had collapsed completely.
