Bobby Arnold became a recording engineer at Willie Nelson's Pedernales Studio in 1982; after a decade, he moved to the Fire Station Studio on the campus of Texas State University. At these locations, his clients included Nelson, Neil Young, Asleep at the Wheel, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Ray Charles, Augie Meyers, Doug Sahm, and Carole King. In 2003, Lucky Tomblin recruited Arnold to be a member of the Lucky Tomblin Band, playing rhythm guitar, and he appeared on the group's self-titled debut album, as well as on In a Honky-Tonk Mood (2006), Red Hot from Blue Rock (2007), and Honky Tonk Merry Go Round (2010).
