In 1988 Bitch, the Los Angeles-based sado-masochistic band who were obsessed with leather, whips and chains, decided to clean up their act. They changed their name to Betsy and adopted a less extreme angle. The band still comprised Betsy Weiss (vocals), David Carruth (guitar), Ron Cordy (bass) and Robby Settles (drums), but the sexual side of the group’s image was played down. Signing to Roadrunner Records, their sole release was not noticeably different from the old Bitch musical style: heavy metal with lacklustre vocals, albeit with less tawdry lyrics. The album sank without trace and they reverted to leather underwear and the Bitch tag within a year.
