b. USA. Big band leader Bernie Krueger established his first orchestra in the early 20s in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The group, which appeared mainly in theatres rather than ballrooms, included musicians Hymie Farberman, Benny Bloom, Fred Schilling, Herman Kaplan, Perry Billitzer, Lester Morris, Bill Arenburg, Dick Cherwin, Happy Reis, Harry Reser and, at one time, Benny Goodman. The vocalists were Al Bernard, Billy Jones, Ernest Hare, Scrappy Lambert, Dick Robertson and Fran Frey. They became one of the first bands to be signed to the MCA label when it established its base of operations in Chicago, and enjoyed some success with releases such as ‘It’s Getting Dark On Old Broadway, Honey’ on Brunswick Records.
