Germany's curiously named Ab:Norm formed in 1997, and plays vicious but elaborate death metal bordering on grindcore. Featuring guitarists Martin Weissenberger and Tobias Drabold, bassist Michael Heinrich, and drummer Gianni Cutrona, the band was later joined by Crematory vocalist Felix Stass, confusing some into thinking this was his side project, rather than a stand-alone band. 2001's Inside debut album was released by Show no Mercy Records, and was eventually made available for downloading in its entirety -- free of charge. Just what the reasoning was behind this decision is anyone's guess, but Ab:Norm remain active, and are working on their second effort.
