Spanish alternative pop/rock band A Las Penas Puñalás got involved in the local rock scene in the mid-'90s, performing a fusion of rock, flamenco, reggae, blues, and hip-hop. In 1998 the band received an award for best song, after participating with "Un Granito de Arena," at the Altaveu Frontera Festival. After issuing three EPs ("Guitarra Loca" in 1996, "Africa" in 1999, and "Todo Lo Que Ves"), A Las Penas Puñalás released their first album, called Pop de por Aqui, in March of 2001.
