AllMusic Review by

After more than a decade of professional songwriting and recording, Mel Tillis finally broke through in the '70s to become a major country star. On the basis of chart hits, he was one of the Top Ten country artists of the decade. Would You Want the World to End was made during his peak years and yet is as unremarkable a record as you will find in his catalog. The title track was a hit, but the album cuts work the same slow shuffle beat over and over again on a lineup of forgettable songs. The problem is almost certainly a hyperactive record release schedule; a popular artist could put out four albums a year in this era, and it was understandably difficult to maintain a high level of quality. Although Tillis is a very talented songwriter, he contributed only one song to the album, "Gonna Burn Some Bridges." The monochromatic cover art fittingly reflects the music on this serviceable but slight effort.
