AllMusic Review by

This second volume in the While My Guitar Gently Weeps series (two discs, 37 tracks) certainly has some guitar classics like the Allman Brothers Band's elegant "Statesboro Blues," Dire Straits' immortal guitar song about a horn band "Sultans of Swing," and Lynyrd Skynyrd's you-gotta-love-it epic "Free Bird," but it also has songs like Steve Earle's "Guitar Town," which is less about guitars than attitude; Sam & Dave's "Soul Man," which is really all about greasy, horn-driven Southern soul, and the Impressions' "People Get Ready," which is a pop-gospel gem but wouldn't be on anyone's list of guitar jams. The end result here wanders just a bit thematically, but it's a budget set, so you get a lot of good tracks for not much, whatever the theme.
