AllMusic Review by

This two disc collection includes hits and classic performances of big band dance tunes led by band leaders including Glen Miller (several, including "Chattanooga Choo Choo"), Benny Goodman ("Sing Sing Sing," among others), Jimmy Dorsey ("Tangerine," and more), and even one from the ultimate band leader, Duke Ellington ("Take the A Train"). Some of the featured singers include Bing Crosby ("You Are My Sunshine," and more), Ella Fitzgerald ("The Muffin Man"), Louis Jordan ("Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby"), the Mills Brothers ("Paper Doll" and "Lazy Bones"), Marlene Dietrich ("Lili Marlene"), and British star of the '40s, Vera Lynn. There is minimal hiss heard during these recordings of the '30s and '40s, resulting overall in a very worthwhile collection of songs from the Hit Parade.
