Weekend Anthems is a triple-disc compilation of contemporary hits spanning the dance-pop spectrum. Released by Universal Music TV, and priced economically at just ten pounds, the 61-track compilation is subtitled The Bar, The Club, The Chillout, which refers to the musical theme of each of the three discs. The first disc is intended to get you primed for the weekend: loosen you up, get you in a good mood, put you in a party state of mind. Its highlights include smash hit dance-pop tunes like Black Eyed Peas' "Rock That Body," Calvin Harris' "Ready for the Weekend," and JLS' "Beat Again." Kicking it up a few notches, the second disc is straight-up club music intended for peak-hour play. Flush with remixes, its highlights include Inna's "Hot," Sugababes' "Wear My Kiss," and Cheryl Coles "Parachute." The third disc slows down the tempo but keeps the party going with a mix of pop, rap, and R&B, along with some remixes. Its highlights include Florence + the Machine's "You've Got the Love," Drake's "Best I Ever Had," and Jeremih's "Birthday Sex." You get a lot of bang for you buck with Weekend Anthems. Even if you don't listen to the compilation as it's intended -- after all, it's hard for the club disc to serve its purpose while you're at the club yourself -- at least you can pick up a lot of pop, rap, R&B, and dance hits for your collection in one affordable purchase.
