Gagaku is the orchestral court-music of Japan, the oldest still-existing music for orchestra in the world. The lyrical Noh choral drama, developed in the 14th century and hardly changed since, consists largely of recitative and song. The example here, Hagoromo, is one of a class of plays concerning romantic and nature spirits. Also included is an example of a pre-Noh-play.
