Smooth jazz has truly become a worldwide phenomenon. The fifth volume in the This Is Smooth Jazz series collects 12 smooth and jazz-like tracks from African artists like Louis Mhlanga, Kalamazoo III, Sheer All Stars, and Wessel. Many of the artists here have worked with people like George Duke, Hugh Masekela, Al Jarreau, and Paul Simon, and their approach to smooth jazz conforms to the prevalent stylistic boundaries of smooth jazz but also adds a touch of African feeling to the mix. It is a nice idea, and fans of smooth jazz will find this album to be very pleasant and may even be inspired to check out some more traditional African music as well.
