AllMusic Review by

During the era covered by this LP (along with Vol. 4 in the valuable Hindsight series), Harry James's Orchestra and the leader himself were open to the influence of bebop. The arrangements by Ray Conniff, Jimmy Mundy, Neal Hefti, Johnny Richards are generally quite modern and there are many strong solos from the likes of the trumpeter/leader, trombonist Ziggy Elmer, altoist Willie Smith, Corky Corcoran on tenor, clarinetist Eddie Rosa and pianist Bruce MacDonald. Recommended.
