AllMusic Review by

Legacy's Music of Aretha Franklin is a three-disc, 45-cut retrospective spotlighting four decades of the Queen of Soul's career. The track listing sticks close to chronological order beginning in the early '60s with material recorded for Columbia, highlighted by her interpretations of numerous standards, followed by a few songs taken from her association with the Atlantic label in the mid-'60s, including "Chain of Fools." The set ends in the '80s with her tenure at Arista and the hits "Freeway of Love," "Who's Zoomin' Who?," and "Sisters Are Doin' it for Themselves." Since this set digs deeper than similar compilations, it's recommended for those who want more than just the hits.
