Sheila Jordan has recorded fairly infrequently throughout her career, but each recording has its very special moments. This Black Hawk LP (not yet reissued on CD except in Japan) has four duets with bassist Harvie Swartz and one with pianist Kenny Barron, as well as backing by Swartz, Barron, and drummer Ben Riley on "Sheila's Blues" and three quintet numbers that add flugelhornist Tom Harrell to the group. All nine performances are somewhat memorable, with the highlights including an eerie "Inchworm," the autobiographical "Sheila's Blues," "Little Willie Leaps," "Suite for Lady and Prez," and the emotional "It Never Entered My Mind." Well worth searching for.
