It should be called best of the great adult women singers: This is a 20-song collection of female pop artists from the late '40s and '50s, singing the kind of material that dominated the hit parade in the days just before the rise of rock & roll. Contains two songs each by ten of the heavyweight contenders of the genre (Patti Page, Jo Stafford, Doris Day, Kay Starr, Teresa Brewer, Rosemary Clooney, the McGuire Sisters, the Andrews Sisters, Margaret Whiting, Peggy Lee). The songs are both classic ("You Belong to Me," "Fever") and horrid (Kay Starr's "The Rock and Roll Waltz," a contradiction in terms if there ever was one). Since you get only a sliver of each performer, it's best designed for someone with a mild interest in this period who wants only a sampler, rather than those who are passionate about this stuff.
