Jimmy C. Newman has artfully integrated a country sensibility into his Cajun roots and crafted a style with a foot in both camps. This session emphasized the Cajun side, although it still contained numbers that were thoroughly country, from arrangements to Newman's earnest vocals. But he displayed his Cajun side quite forcefully, whether paying tribute to such greats as Johnnie Allen and D.L. Menard with crackling versions of their songs or doing his own arrangements of traditional Cajun music backed by a quality band.
