Two of the biggest names in classic country music, Mickey Gilley and Willie Nelson, are captured in their formative days on this collection. Texas Troubadours: The Rarities Collection opens with eight songs Mickey Gilley recorded for Paula Records in the mid-'60s, featuring honky tonk numbers like "Now I Can Live Again" and "She's Still Got a Hold on You" as well as rock & roll tunes in the style of his cousin, Jerry Lee Lewis. The set also includes eight rare selections from Willie Nelson, including solo demos of "The Ghost," "If I Had Only Known," and "Darkness on the Face of the Earth," as well as early takes of "Night Life" and "Healing Hand of Time." The set closes with a new duet, with Nelson and Juice Newton sharing vocals on "Funny How Time Slips Away."
