AllMusic Review by

Ten Esperanto Love Songs is a great record, largely due to the fact that it avoids the trendiest sounds of its mid-'90s Seattle home. Gherkin manage to construct driving indie rock using clean, angular, melodic guitars with scratchy arrangement, tending more toward quick, syncopated subtlety than the horribly obvious sludge rock that dominated the Northwest's plainer bands. More important than style is the fact that Gherkin can write a song with a wonderful sense of pace and dynamics; at its best, this album leaves practically nothing to be desired.
