Vito Price is a forgotten name today but his only session as a leader finds the tenorman (who doubled on alto) in excellent form. Five selections showcases his horns with a ten-piece unit that also features pianist Lou Levy while the remaining five selections are with a quintet also including Levy, guitarist Freddie Green, bassist Max Bennett and drummer Gus Johnson. The cool-toned leader swings well and, even if he did not possess a distinctive voice of his own, this enjoyable set (originally on Argo and reissued on CD by Fresh Sound) should greatly interest bop fans.
