AllMusic Review by

Here's a nice collection of very early Mills Brothers, all of it recorded between 1934 and the following year. The group was far more jazz-oriented back then, using their voices to imitate trumpets, trombones and other brass instruments, and it's an intriguing blend. The transfers are reasonably clean (although some groove distortion is evident on some passages, and the tray card erroneously refers to these recordings as "stereo") and the material -- mostly jazz standards like "Sweet Georgia Brown" and "Tiger Rag" -- is top-notch. This is one really fun collection and an absolute delight to spin in the deck.
