Strut Sampler One, the first sampler from U.K. imprint Strut, takes special mixes and edits from some of house and hip-hop's pioneers. Showing the wide scope of music the label chooses to focus on, the sampler kicks off with the Afrobeat of Orlando Julius and works its way into an 11-minute excursion from Strut staple Danny Krivit. Taking the release from boogie to the Bronx and back again, it's a pretty comprehensive portrait of what this label is about: uncompromising soul.
