AllMusic Review by

Before hitting the charts with pleasant pop fodder like "Wheel of Fortune" and "Rock & Roll Waltz," Kay Starr was a strong big band singer, appearing during the '40s with Charlie Barnet and, briefly, Glenn Miller and Joe Venuti. Concentrating on her best years (1944-1946), Stardust collects 28 sides from a pre-popularity Starr, including four with Barnet and an assortment from various unidentified small-group sessions. The sound quality is surprisingly good, and Starr's personality and character shine through with knockout performances from "Honeysuckle Rose," "Love Me or Leave Me," "Sharecroppin' Blues," and "Where or When."
