This inaugural release by Colophon (aka Jefre Cantu-Ledesma) is part of Dreams By Degrees' Seasons series of 10" EPs. It is the only one featuring instrumental music only, thus stretching the young image of the label from artsy indie pop to ambient electronica. "Night Falls on 15th St." is a ten-minute construction of single-spaced guitar notes, a booming pulse, and delicate clicks + cuts. Reminiscent of Christian Fennesz's work, it floats around the room nicely but without leaving a strong impression. "The Bougainvillea at Twilight" glides by even more softly. Here Colophon worked with what sounds like a violin drone, some field recordings (suburban?), and another drone that sounds like stretched-out church bells. This second track shows respectable artistry in sound forging and a lot of promise.
