AllMusic Review by

A song cycle built around the universal themes (and cyclical nature) of life and death, Sleep Dreamt a Brother is the third long-player from English musician and painter Mathew Sawyer, and the first outing to be released under his name alone (2006's Blue Birds Blood was attributed to the Ghosts, while 2010's How Snakes Eat was released under the moniker Mathew Sawyer and the Ghosts). Inspired by the deaths of three close friends, the album continues in the vein of its predecessor, offering up an idiosyncratic blend of chamber pop and classically infused folk paired with surreal and occasionally moving lyrics.
