Pianist Johnny Varro and Don Nelson (the latter on soprano sax and vocals) perform a set of duets on this enjoyable LP. In addition to six veteran swing standards, Nelson contributes five originals (and Varro one); the fresh material results in some inspired playing. Varro has long been one of the top swing pianists (most influenced by Teddy Wilson) and the more obscure Nelson has an attractive tone and a personable singing style. Even if all of the newer lyrics are not necessarily classic, the performances are consistently excellent and swinging.
