In 1983, Paul Weller broke up the Jam at the peak of their success in order to form a new band that would give him more room to explore his interest in R&B, soul, jazz, and dance sounds. The result was the Style Council, which Weller co-founded with keyboardist Mick Talbot; they recorded a series of ambitious albums that fused sophisticated sounds with incisive political and social commentary. Shout to the Top: The Collection features 18 of the best songs from the group's eight-year run, bridging the gap between the Jam's run of hits and Weller's return as a solo artist. Selections include "Long Hot Summer," "My Ever Changing Moods," "Walls Come Tumbling Down," and "You're the Best Thing."
