Concert harpist and spiritual sound healer Joel Andrews has studied the effects of sound on the chakras, the seven energy centers of the body that are located from the base of the spine to crown of the head. After a heavenly introduction, Andrews plays music to resonate with the first chakra at the base of the spine; here, the music is low and serene. The eight pieces run together, but the sections are distinct. Some are melodic (even rhapsodic), while others tickle the senses with golden glissandi; Andrews uses some exotic tonal scales, yet he also plays passages similar to the impressionism of Maurice Ravel. A signature Andrews device is his siren call that seems to beckon to the next level. You can play Seven Wheels of Light as a chakra meditation (the album's booklet explains more) or as relaxation music -- it's a ravishingly radiant album. The angels are surely smiling.
