In 1998, Philippine label OctoArts/EMI released, Rico J. Puno -- OPM Timeless Collection -- Gold Series 3, a collection songs recorded by Philippine male singer Rico J. Puno for OctoArts between 1981 and 1986. The album is dominated by passionate, easy-listening love songs, a style of music quite popular in the Philippines. Many of the songs are nondescript and bland. The album also contains three songs that aren't easy-listening, including an adventurous and funky number called "Got to Be Careful." Rico J. Puno has a better than average voice, and puts much emotion and passion into his performances. He sounds strong in songs such as the easy-listening, "Together Forever." His voice can become rough-edged when he exerts passion, and this adds to his overall presentation and charm. The easy-listening songs don't present much of a challenge, and Rico J. Puno performs them with polish and finesse. The funky, "Got to Be Careful," comes as a surprise, considering most songs on the album are slow, derivative love songs. It opens with a funky bassline and flashy horn riffs laid atop a syncopated, disco-styled backbeat, as Rico J. Puno enters with a strong, soulful vibe, and shines on the song's melodic chorus. He seems to relish the opportunity to flex his style and vocal cords. One of the better love songs is the penetrating ballad, "Hanggang Langit" (trans: Up to Heaven), which sounds like something 1990s/2000s Latin singer Mark Anthony might sing. "The Great Performer" is a weird, show-tune type song which contains much histrionics, including weird, melodramatic backing vocals.
