AllMusic Review by

Power of Metal/Symphonies of Steel compiles a number of minor classics from the '80s hair metal era. Not many of the featured bands were very popular with American audiences, and none broke through to mass commercial success. Nonetheless, some of the featured bands here were some of the better bands of the era, in particular Helloween, Kreator, Celtic Frost, and Virgin Steele. This collection features some of these bands' better songs. Virgin Steele's "Symphony of Steele" leads the album and gives it its name. This collection should appeal primarily to hair metal fanatics more interested in these lesser-known bands rather than popular bands of the era like Mötley Crüe and Metallica.
