Playlist: The Very Best of Sponge culls together 14 of the Detroit-based post-grunge band's most popular cuts. Although they persevered to release six more albums on a variety of indie labels, the Playlist collection is concerned only with their two mid-'90s, Sony-owned Columbia releases and dishes up the band's hardest-rocking hits like "Molly (Sixteen Candles)," "Wax Ecstatic (To Sell Angelina)," and "Plowed." While a greatest-hits album whose songs are pulled from just two albums might seem a bit redundant, it ably serves as a highlight reel from the band's commercial peak and will satisfy the casual fan not wishing to troll through Sponge's more extensive catalog.
