AllMusic Review by

Although he would continue playing into the 1980s, trumpeter Phil Napoleon's last recordings were his three Capitol LPs of 1959-1960 (none of which have been reissued on CD yet). The first studio record is quite strong, matching Napoleon with clarinetist Kenny Davern, pianist Johnny Varro, and trombonist Harry DiVito in a sextet. The Dixieland band is heard in fine form on such numbers as "Milenberg Joys," "After You've Gone," "Wolverine Blues," and "St. Louis Blues."
